We understand the importance of thorough, in-depth patent research. Our veteran search professionals dig deep, drawing on their subject matter expertise and utilizing the best strategies and technologies to efficiently uncover the information you need.

All of our searches can include:

  • A comprehensive review of US and foreign patent database and non-patent literature, using subscription-based patent research platforms and publicly available tools.
  • Relevant non-patent literature sources, such as subscription-based journals, scientific publications, and trade bulletins.
  • Full-text PDF copies of each cited reference.
  • Pinpoint-claim citations to relevant areas within each cited reference.
  • Country-specific searches.
  • Rush services, such as overnight and weekend services.
  Patentability Search

A Patentability Search identifies prior art references that either alone or in combination are material to the patentability of an invention. Search results include published applications and issued patents, both US and foreign, as well as non-patent literature such as scientific publications and journals. In the identified references, we provide pinpoint citations to segments of particular relevance within each reference. We do not inundate the results with background art, and only provide references which we feel are particularly relevant, in light on KSR and the professional judgment of our former USPTO examiners and patent attorneys.

  Accelerated Examination Search

An AE search is used to take advantage of the USPTO's Accelerated Examination program. All applications must comply with the stringent guidelines set forth in 37 C.F.R. 1.98. Our AE searches follows these guidelines and clearly identify where each element of your claims might be disclosed in the prior art with line citations. Upon request, we can prepare the AE Support Document, Search Document, or both.

  Freedom-to-Operate Search

A Freedom-to-Operate Search (also known as a Clearance Search) identifies in-force patents and published applications that may pose an infringement risk to your product or service. A Freedom-to-Operate Search can be used to determine whether a particular action, such as testing or commercializing a product, can be done without infringing valid intellectual property rights of others. The search scope may be limited to certain geographic jurisdictions, such as the United States or Europe, or can be worldwide.

  Validity Search or Invalidity Search

An Validity or Invalidity Search identifies prior art references that may be used alone or in combination to contest the validity of the claims in a patent or patent application. Only references possibly disclosing the claim limitations at issue are included. In addition, we can provide our Reference Comparison Chart™ which maps each cited reference against every claim limitation in the instant claim set.
